Web camera captures Hogmanay fun
Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations are to be relayed across the world via the internet. The city council has installed a web camera in George Square which will discreetly film revellers seeing in the new millennium.
The first, which went live just over a year ago, is being used to provide live footage for the council's official internet site and has recorded millions of hits so far. Joining the party This latest addition will enable those who cannot make it to the Hogmanay party to join in the fun through the web. It promises to offer a view of the events area and the six-minute fireworks display being set off at midnight from the roof of the council's headquarters at the City Chambers. The camera has been mounted externally inside a specially built "dome" and it runs on an Axis 240 camera server. Both cameras can be viewed in either Java or Non-Java versions. It is estimated that 100,000 people will attend the Hogmanay celebrations. |
