Motorbike appeal in murder probe
Ronald Dougan was shot dead by a gunman

Two men seen with a motorbike near to where a 25-year-old was shot could hold the key to his murder, police believe.

Ronald Dougan was shot in Torbrex Road, North Carbrain, at 1910 BST on Thursday. He was taken to Monklands Hospital where he later died.

Detectives said he was walking with a female friend when attacked.

They are "very keen" to speak to two men seen unloading a scrambler-type motorbike from a blue-coloured Transit van in a cobbled street nearby.

'Crucial information'

Mr Dougan was unemployed and lived with his mother and sister in Cumbernauld's Darley Road.

He was described as a "popular guy" by locals.

Det Supt Les Darling, from Strathclyde Police, appealed for the men seen with the motorbike to come forward.

He said: "It is entirely possible that these aforementioned people have nothing whatsoever to do with the shooting.

"However it is important that we trace them as they may have information crucial to the inquiry.

"I ask that they contact police as a matter of urgency."

He added that a blue-coloured Subaru Impreza motor vehicle was also seen in a car park around the time of the incident. Police want to hear from anybody who saw either the van or the car.
