Four men have been found guilty of being involved in a huge drugs operation in Fife.

But Jamie Gunn, the man claimed to have been the "brains" behind the operation, was cleared of all charges.

Police seized 330 kilos of cannabis resin worth an estimated £660,000 at houses in High Valleyfield in 2004.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, Michael Henderson, 48, Colin Salmond, 22, Brian Fletcher, 35, and Keith Ferguson, 41, were found guilty of supplying drugs.

Sentencing was deferred for background reports.

The court heard that during searches on 11 June 2004 more than 1,300 "soap bars" of cannabis resin were seized.

Police also recovered herbal cannabis and cocaine.

Car purchases

They also found a scanner which was tuned into the radio band used by the West Fife division of the police force.

Advocate depute Robert Weir claimed in his speech to the jury that Mr Gunn was "the brains behind the operation which introduced vast amounts of drugs into High Valleyfield in West Fife".

The court heard that no drugs were found at the home of Mr Gunn, in the village's Chapel Place.

Money was found at a house in the village and Mr Gunn was discovered to have thousands of pounds on him when police detained him later that evening.

But Mr Gunn said part of the money was destined to be banked and some was earmarked for potential car purchases for his business.

The judge, Lord Mackay of Drumadoon, deferred sentence on the four men convicted of drugs charges for the preparation of background reports.
