Muslims invited to air concerns

The executive will meet Muslim leaders at Glasgow Central Mosque

Ministers will meet Muslim leaders in Glasgow to discuss issues raised after the London bombings.

Thursday's meeting at Glasgow Central Mosque aims to give the Muslim community the chance to air their concerns to the Scottish Executive.

The move echoes similar meetings being held by the Home Office down south in recognition of the increased tension between faith groups since 7 July.

Communities Minister Malcolm Chisholm said it was important to build bridges.

The meeting, which is to be a low key affair, is part of continuing liaison work between the executive and multi faith groups.

Leaders will be given the opportunity to discuss the impact of the London terrorist attacks on the Muslim community in Glasgow.

Channel grievances

The Home Office minister Hazel Blears is currently on a tour of eight towns and cities in England talking to Muslim leaders.

Ms Blears said she was looking for positive ways to channel grievances - especially those about the Iraq war.

However, opposition politicians were sceptical about what could be achieved from such discussions.

Shadow Attorney General Dominic Grieve said discussions alone would not resolve problems in Muslim communities.
