Campaigners hand over their petition to Scottish Borders Council
Campaigners fighting a holiday development south of Hawick have handed in a petition to planning officers at Scottish Borders Council.

Residents of Craik said plans for 51 log cabins would have a hugely detrimental effect on the area.

The 115-signature petition was handed in to the council by the Upper Borthwick Valley Action Group.

Developer MDL (Borders) Ltd said the proposals were eco-friendly and would be a boon to the local economy.

Small community

It said the plans could generate an extra £330,000 a year of shopping spending in Hawick alone.

Objections to the proposal include inadequate water supply, sewage disposal and the impact on wildlife in the area.

Campaigners also said it constituted over-development of a small community.

Scottish Borders Council will consider the application at its development and building control committee when it meets at Newtown St Boswells on 13 February.
