An alert involving a man feared to be armed with a handgun inside a medical centre in Edinburgh has been brought to a peaceful end.
Streets around the Springwell Medical Centre, at Ardmillan Terrace in the Gorgie area, were closed at 1445 BST when a man allegedly produced a weapon.
However, the 33-year-old man emerged from the doctors' surgery almost three hours later, with a friend.
No staff or other members of the public had been inside the premises.
A police spokesman said: "Two men were detained at around 1725 BST following an incident on Ardmillan Terrace in Edinburgh.
"Tests are currently being carried out on a weapon to establish if it is a
real firearm."
