McLetchie's resignation statement
Scottish Conservative leader David McLetchie has announced that he is standing down. This is the full text of his statement:

I have today tendered my resignation as leader of the Conservative group of MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.

I do so with a heavy heart, as it has been both an honour and a privilege to lead the group for the last six years.

I have been committed to the Conservative Party in Scotland for the whole of my adult life, and what it stands for is far more important than me personally.

I recognise that the recent coverage surrounding my expense claims has been damaging and is a major distraction from our efforts to rebuild support for the party in the country.

Accordingly it is right that I stand down as leader.

I thank my colleagues for the support that they have given me, particularly over this difficult period.

I also reiterate my commitment to fully reimburse any expenses which I have claimed in error.
