Detectives investigating the murder of a Glasgow woman have put up a giant poster in the red light district of the city in a bid to gain information.

The poster, carrying a photograph of Emma Caldwell, is situated outside a car park on Cadogan Street where she worked as a prostitute.

A second poster is being displayed in the south of the city at Butterbiggins Road, where she was last seen.

Emma's body was found in a wooded area near Biggar, South Lanarkshire, in May.

Despite an appeal on BBC's Crimewatch UK and a £10,000 reward, Strathclyde Police said they were still no closer to catching her killer.

More than 50 dedicated officers have been trawling through over 5,000 inquiries on the case and detectives said they were positive of a breakthrough.

My message to whoever did this is: 'We will not stop pursuing you, we will use every tool in the toolbox and every technique'
Det Supt Willie Johnston

Detective Superintendent Willie Johnston said the posters would be a permanent reminder to people who passed that an active investigation was still under way.

"We hope they will prick the conscience and jog the memories of people who frequent this area," he said.

"We owe it to Emma's parents and the wider public to bring this case to a successful conclusion and these posters will stay up until such time as we do so."

Detectives have already visited the homes and workplaces of the 27-year-old's former clients.

Mr Johnston added: "My message to whoever did this is: 'We will not stop pursuing you, we will use every tool in the toolbox and every technique. We never go away'."

In May, a 60ft image of Emma was beamed onto a tower block of derelict flats in Glasgow's Gorbals area near one of the places where she worked.
