Pop star Pete Doherty has been stopped by police in Dundee city centre after he was found drinking in the streets.

Officers seized alcohol from the Babyshambles frontman and gave him a warning after the incident around 0845BST on Friday.

Doherty, who is the boyfriend of troubled supermodel Kate Moss, was stopped along with two friends.

His spokesman said that the singer was probably unaware of Dundee's city centre ban on drinking.

A Tayside Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that three men were stopped by officers in the Nethergate area of Dundee city centre at around 8.45am.

"They had alcohol taken from them, which was disposed of. They were given a warning and were allowed on their way."

Doherty, who was kicked out of hit band the Libertines last year over his drug taking, has attracted much media attention in recent months.

Girlfriend Moss, 31, has been dropped by clothing chain H&M after photos allegedly showing her taking cocaine appeared in a newspaper.

Chanel also said it had no plans to use her again soon and Burberry cancelled an advertising campaign featuring her.

In an interview with Dundee's Radio Tay, Doherty said: "A lot of people basically are obsessed with the missus and I don't know really ... she's just a bird from South London."

He later added: "I can't get my head round it really."

Speaking to the radio station about the band, he said: "It's just really exciting to be doing at last what we do best - the only thing we can do really - just play tunes."

Babyshambles were due to play a sell-out gig at Fat Sams nightclub in Dundee on Friday evening.
