Jools Holland has announced he is to open a jazz and blues club in Edinburgh.

The presenter and musician has described the Scottish capital as one of his favourite places in the world.

The Jam House is set to open in November, following the success of a branch in Birmingham.

It will be based at the former BBC Broadcasting House on Queen Street, where studios have been converted into bars and lounge areas.

The music club and restaurant is based on the House of Blues venues in Los Angeles and Chicago.

'Swing the blues'

Holland, who plays the piano with his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, said: "I have always enjoyed the ambience of the Jam House in Birmingham.

"When we play there it's a perfect place to swing the blues.

"Edinburgh is one of my favourite places in the world and I hope we can bring the same atmosphere to the Jam House there."

The club is the creation of Holland as musical director and designer Neil Tibbatt.

The first Jam House venue, in Birmingham's St Paul's Square, has featured performances from Chaka Khan and The Specials' former singer Neville Staple.

Celebrity guests have included Bill Wyman, Ocean Colour Scene and Noddy Holder.
