Fresh appeal over Dundee murders

Police investigating the murders of two women in Dundee 25 years ago have appealed to four men to come forward.

Detectives reopened their inquiry into the deaths of Elizabeth McCabe and Carol Lannen last year and have vowed to catch their killers.

Ms McCabe, 20, was last seen leaving a disco in Union Street in Dundee in February 1980. Her body was found two weeks later in Templeton Woods.

Officers want to speak to one of Ms McCabe's friends, known as 'Bob'.

Police also want to speak to a man, possibly a boyfriend, who Ms McCabe was seen arguing with a week before she disappeared.

Detective Chief Inspector Ewen West added that detectives were keen to contact two drivers in relation to Ms Lannen's murder.

Eighteen-year-old Carol Lannen's body was found in the same woods in March 1979 - a day after she was seen getting into a man's car in Exchange Street in Dundee.

Police want to speak to the car driver and to a man who called at her former address the day before she died.

DCI West said: "Elizabeth spoke fondly of one of her friends, who she referred to as 'Bob', and although several people have heard of him, no-one can remember his surname.

"We would like to speak to Bob as he may be able to give us some useful information."

'Positive progress'

Police are also keen to identify a man seen arguing with McMcCabe in Lochee High Street, Dundee, about a week before she disappeared.

Mr West added: "This man was overheard to call her 'Liz', so he obviously knew her and could have been a friend or possibly even a boyfriend."

The detective said the man, who may have been driving a red car that was parked nearby, was in his early 20s in 1980. He was about 5ft 10in tall and had dark hair and a full moustache.

Officers also reissued their appeal for the drivers of two cars to come forward in relation to Ms Lannen's murder.

Police vow

The 18-year-old was last seen at about 2000 GMT on 20 March, 1979, in Dundee's Exchange Street, where she entered a red-coloured car, similar to a Ford Cortina Estate, driven by a man who has still not been traced.

Police also want to speak to the male driver of a blue Range Rover who called at Ms Lannen's former address and asked for her, a day before her death.

She had earlier been picked up from her family home in Hill Street and taken by taxi to Dundee city centre, near Commercial Street.

Mr West said: "Despite the historical nature of these enquiries, we are continuing to make positive progress in both enquiries and there is no question of us giving up on catching the killer or killers."
