A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Aberdeen in which a 32-year-old man died.

Marcus Rees, originally from Swansea in Wales, was found lying badly injured on the city's King Street early on Friday, 19 November.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a critical condition but died later.

Grampian Police said that a 25-year-old man from the north east of Scotland has been detained.

Detective Inspector Paul McCruden, who has been leading the inquiry, said: "Following extensive enquiries, the man has charged with a number of road traffic offences. Enquiries are ongoing.

"It is too early at this stage to say when the man will appear in court."

Mr McCruden said Mr Rees's 57-year-old mother Carol, who had travelled to be at her dying son's bedside, has been informed of the arrest.
