Police step up Gary mother search

Posters have been put up around Holyrood Park by police
A week after a newborn baby was found abandoned in an Edinburgh park, police have been out in force in an effort to identify him and trace his mother.

Officers hope that a more prominent presence may lead to vital witnesses coming forward.

Posters have been put up in Holyrood Park where the baby, who has been named Gary by nurses, was found and a mobile incident room has been set up.

There have been repeated appeals to Gary's mother to contact police.

The infant, who is now in foster care, will be adopted if she does not come forward.

Lothian and Borders Police have been hoping to jog the memory of anyone who may have been in the park a week ago and who could help identify the boy's mother.

No blanket

Officers have been speaking to people in the park and in nearby homes in the hope that someone may have seen something significant.

Baby Gary was found in woodland on the outskirts of Holyrood Park last Friday night.

He was named after the first policeman on the scene when he was found abandoned in trees near Brown Street, next to the Dumbiedykes estate.

The baby, who was thought to have been in the park for less than an hour when he was found, had no clothing or blanket and was suffering from hypothermia.

Detectives have circulated details about the incident across Scotland.
