Medical staff said Gary was lucky to be alive

Efforts to trace the mother of a newborn baby abandoned in an Edinburgh park have had little success, police have said.
The boy, named Gary after the first officer on the scene, was found after a passing couple heard him crying in Holyrood Park late on Friday night.
The boy had been there for less than an hour, but had no clothing or blankets and was suffering from hypothermia.
He was making good progress in hospital, police said.
Staff at the Simpson Maternity Unit said the 6lb baby was healthy.
Police said they were anxious to trace the mother, who may need medical attention.
'Very lucky'
They could not rule out the possibility that the baby was born in the park, or that someone else brought him there.
Dr Paula Midgley, consultant neo-natologist at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, said Gary was "very lucky" to be alive.
"He would not have lasted much longer in the open," she said.
"He was already very hypothermic when he arrived. That is a huge stress for any baby.
"Although he is looking extremely well now we want to observe him for another couple of days to make sure there are no lasting effects."
