Murder hunt plea to taxi drivers
Raglan Street
Police want to hear from taxi drivers who were in the area
Police are appealing to Glasgow's taxi drivers to help them find the killer of a 93-year-old woman found stabbed to death in her home on Christmas Eve.

Officers are still seeking a motive for the violent attack on Margaret Weir, who was known as Peggy, in Maryhill.

Detectives have urged taxi drivers who were in the Raglan Street area between 0400 and 0600 GMT on 24 December to come forward with any information.

The also want to speak to anyone who was at the nearby Q8 petrol station.

Det Supt Kenny Watters said that people in either location may have "unwittingly witnessed something of vital importance to this inquiry".

Carrying rucksack

He said it had been established that there was activity at the Cedar Street flats during those two hours.

Mr Watters is also keen to speak to three men who were seen in the Raglan Street area between 0500 and 0600 on Friday.

One man in his 30s, wearing a long, dark raincoat and carrying a rucksack, was seen walking in St George's Road towards St George's Cross.

A second man - described as 5ft 5in tall, wearing dark clothing - was seen walking from the direction of the block's stairwell.

The third man, who was aged between 50 and 60, was seen standing by a tree outside the block.

He had a thin face and white hair and was wearing glasses, a dark bomber jacket and dark trousers.

Mr Watters said that more than 40 detectives were currently carrying out door-to-door enquiries and trawling through CCTV footage.

"We are still trying to establish a motive for this murder," he said.

"This was a cowardly attack on an innocent and defenceless woman who was well known and well liked in the area.

"The local community have been shocked by the brutal death of Peggy, and this has been reflected in the amount of calls from those anxious to help."

Police said on Monday that entry to the house had not been forced, suggesting that the victim may have known her attacker.
