Patricia Mary McAdam was reported missing in 1967
A 70-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a girl who went missing 37 years ago.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the man was arrested on Wednesday in the Grampian Police area.

He is accused of the murder of 17-year-old Patricia Mary McAdam, who was reported missing from the Dumfries and Galloway area in February 1967.

No trace of her has been found. A police spokesman said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.

The case was reviewed in July and an inquiry team, which included many retired officers, was set up to reinvestigate the teenager's disappearance.

A police spokesman said: "Through dedicated and committed work by the team and team leader, evidence was unearthed that led to the arrest of this man."
