One man has died and another has been taken to hospital after a boating accident on Loch Lomond.

William Lappin, 48, from Largs in Ayrshire, was fishing with a friend in a small fibreglass boat on Saturday when it capsized.

The younger man, aged 27, managed to get Mr Lappin to the shoreline near Boturich Castle before running to Balloch Park to raise the alarm.

Mr Lappin was taken Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria but later died.

Strathclyde Police officers and a police helicopter crew attended the scene, along with the Luss rescue boat and Balloch Park rangers.

The Park rangers administered first aid to Mr Lappin before he was taken by ambulance to hospital.

The younger man received treatment in the same hospital for severe shock and hypothermia.

The circumstances of the accident will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Dumbarton Police.
