NHS bosses fined in asthma case
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

Health chiefs at Grampian NHS Trust have been fined £3,000 after admitting exposing an employee to a hazardous chemical substance.

The staff nurse was diagnosed with occupational asthma after working in operating theatres in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Doctors said she had developed the illness after inhaling a disinfectant used to sterilise surgical equipment.

At Aberdeen Sheriff Court the trust admitted a health and safety breach.

The hospital has since stopped using the chemical.

Administrators admitted there had been a "number of failures" in their management system.
