Doctor looking at x-ray
TB most commonly affects the lungs
An appeal is being made for drinkers at a pub in Glasgow to seek health advice after a man was confirmed to have contracted tuberculosis.

The 69-year-old, who is a regular in the Tall Crane, Craigton Road, Govan, is now recovering at home.

Public health consultant Dr Syed Ahmed said anyone who had been in the pub recently and who showed symptoms of TB should contact their doctor.

More information is available from the public health unit on 0141 201 4917.

Tuberculosis is a slowly developing bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

It most commonly affects the lungs but can affect almost any part of the body.

TB can be spread when someone with the infection coughs or sneezes or talks and another person breathes in the bacteria.

However, prolonged contact is usually needed to become infected.
