Rush-hour traffic on the Forth Road Bridge was brought to a virtual standstill after a boat fell off its trailer.

The accident happened on the A90 southbound carriageway of the bridge, which had to be closed.

Traffic tailed back to the Pitreavie area and there were long queues on the northbound side.

Police diverted drivers via the Kincardine Bridge. A crane then lifted the boat back onto the trailer.

The southbound lane was re-opened at about 1800 BST but the queues of traffic took several hours to clear.
