Firefighters used a raised platform to rescue the trapped riders
Eleven people were rescued after a rollercoaster ground to a halt halfway through a ride near Glasgow.

Two of the carriages on M&D's Theme Park's Tornado ride became stuck 30ft above the ground at about 1300 BST on Saturday.

Firefighters used a raised platform to rescue those trapped on the ride in the Strathclyde Park venue.

No-one was injured but an investigation has been launched by the company and the Health and Safety Executive.

Probe launched

M&D's commercial director Malcolm Cannon said: "We have launched an investigation into this and the ride has been closed.

"We are not sure whether it was a problem with lubricant or a problem with the wind but the police were in attendance and no-one was hurt."

The latest incident came just over a week after the death of a teenager who fell 100ft from a ride at a theme park in Pembrokeshire, west Wales.

Hayley Williams, 16, plunged from the white knuckle Hydro ride at Oakwood Leisure Park on 15 April.

She was airlifted to hospital but died of internal injuries.
