Strathclyde Police have launched a murder inquiry in Glasgow
A murder inquiry is underway after a man was brutally beaten as he helped repair his friend's vehicle in Glasgow.

David McEwan, 29, was working in Selvieland Road, Crookston, when a man hit him repeatedly with a weapon at about 2015 BST on Tuesday.

He died later in the city's Southern General Hospital after what police say was an apparently motiveless attack.

His attacker is said to be of medium build and wearing casual clothes. He ran away towards Rosshill Road.

Witness appeal

Police believe he may have been accompanied by another man and are looking for any witnesses to come forward.

In particular, officers want to speak to the driver and passengers of a light coloured car, possibly a Vauxhall, being driven around the area shortly before the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Les Darling, who is leading the investigation, said: "I believe there were a number of people out and about at the time of the incident and I am anxious to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this attack or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the immediate area.

"Inquiries are at an early stage, however at this time there is nothing to suggest a motive for this brutal attack."
