A murder inquiry has been launched in Glasgow after a man was stabbed in a street attack in the early hours of Monday morning.
The man died from his injuries
Gavin Wright, of Law Street, was found with serious stab wounds following a disturbance in the Barrowfield area of the city shortly after midnight.
The 27-year-old was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died from his injuries a short time later.
Strathclyde Police detectives confirmed they were treating the death as murder.
And they also revealed reports of shots being fired in Stamford Street - the
scene of the fatal stabbing - around the time of the incident.
Det Supt Elliot McKenzie, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Around 0030 hours this morning a disturbance broke out involving a group of people.
"Inquiries are at an early stage, however it is believed that this disturbance occurred following a car being damaged in Stamford Street."
He added: "It has also been reported that a number of shots were fired although we have no knowledge of any person having been shot."
Det Supt McKenzie appealed for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact police.
