Glen Lyon/Undiscovered Scotland
The man was walking in the Glen Lyon area
A hillwalker who died after falling about 30m from a cliff in the Scottish Highlands has been named.

Christopher Towell, 23, from Norfolk, was airlifted by helicopter to hospital in Glasgow with head injuries but was pronounced dead on arrival".

Tayside Police said the accident happened while he was walking with a friend in Glen Lyon, Perthshire, at about 1730 GMT on Thursday.

It is believed he may have lost his footing because of fading light and tumbled down the hillside near Cashlie Power Station.

Freezing temperatures

As well as head injuries, Mr Towell also suffered from hypothermia as a result of sub-zero temperatures.

Tayside Police mountain rescue team was joined by the Killin mountain rescue team and a search and rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, Prestwick, in the bid to reach Mr Towell.

A Tayside Police spokesman said: "We attended at Cashlie Power Station, Glen Lyon, following a report of a male having fallen down a hillside.

"The casualty was uplifted and taken to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A spokesman for the RAF Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre said: "It would seem the man's companion had walked off the hillside and raised the alarm."
