A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his eight-month-old stepson in an Aberdeenshire town.

Mohammad Ullah, 25, is accused of killing Kyle Mutch at Knockie Road in Turriff on Saturday morning.

Mr Ullah appeared in private on petition at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday.

Procurator fiscal Sandy Hutchison said the accused made no plea or declaration before Sheriff Malcolm Garden and was remanded in custody.

Mr Hutchison said: "Mohammad Ullah appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court on petition charged with murder."

Mr Ullah is expected to appear in court again next week.
