Jodi police seek FBI help
Jodi Jones
Jodi Jones was killed in the summer last year
Detectives hunting the killer of teenager Jodi Jones have sought the help of the FBI in the United States.

Two senior officers have travelled to the Bureau's headquarters at Quantico where they are consulting criminal profilers about the murder.

Jodi, 14, was stabbed to death near her Dalkeith home last summer.

A police report naming a single suspect has been sent to the procurator fiscal, but as yet no one has been arrested in connection with the murder.

Jodi's murder shattered the community of Easthouses in Dalkeith and hundreds turned up for her funeral.

The body of the St David's RC High school pupil was found near to Newbattle High School in Dalkeith.

Lothian and Borders Police spokesman
During the course of their investigations, Lothian and Borders Police interviewed several hundred people and staged a reconstruction of Jodi's last known movements.

Now Chief Superintendent Craig Dobbie and Detective Inspector Tom Martin have flown to the United States to learn from FBI special agents.

It is thought they will help the Scottish officers build up a character profile of the killer.

A spokesman for the Lothian and Borders force said: "We have a well-established relationship with the FBI with many of their officers coming to Edinburgh and our detectives making return exchanges to Quantico.

"The purpose of these visits is for officers with different expertise and experiences to share their professional knowledge to benefit investigations.

"Two of our detectives are currently at the academy discussing a variety of matters."

Criminal profiling is used to narrow down an investigation to those suspects who possess certain behavioural and personality features, which are revealed by the way a crime was committed.
