A pizza delivery driver has been attacked with a hammer in a road rage incident in Edinburgh.
The 38-year-old victim, from Cumbria, received injuries to his arm and his vehicle was damaged.
The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning when the delivery van and a silver Vauxhall Astra car were stopped at the Howdenhall and Captains Road junction in Edinburgh.
The Pizza delivery man first became aware of the Astra, with two male occupants, as he left Penicuik for Edinburgh on the A701.
It was being driven erratically when it overtook his van as it travelled
towards Edinburgh passing through the Gowkley Moss, Ikea and Straiton
roundabouts.
The occupants were gesticulating towards him during the journey and an
aggravation developed between the two parties, which ended in the attack on the van driver.
Edinburgh accent
The road rage incident took place about 0040 BST and police believe that
part of the registration number of the car was "T164..."
The attacker is described as being male, white, aged about 23 years, of
slim build, and clean shaven. He had an Edinburgh accent, and was wearing a black "T2" shirt and blue jeans.
The driver is thought to be of similar age and was wearing a light coloured
top.
Lothian and Borders Police say they are not revealing the name of the company the pizza delivery man worked for. However, he had started out on his journey from Penrith, in Cumbria.
