A driver in Edinburgh has been threatened with an axe during a road rage incident, police have said.
The 48-year-old man had been driving to work in a blue Renault Laguna with his 23-year-old daughter when they were overtaken on the inside by a red Ford Mondeo in the bus lane.
The man sounded his horn and the Mondeo driver responded aggressively.
When the Laguna stopped at traffic lights on the junction of Palmerston Place and Eglinton Crescent in the city's west end, the Mondeo driver got out of his car.
This is a serious incident
which appears to have escalated from a minor driving complaint.

He approached the Laguna and words were exchanged.
The Mondeo driver returned to his car for an axe and challenged the other driver to get out.
The traffic lights changed and the Laguna drove off.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: "This is a serious incident
which appears to have escalated from a minor driving complaint.
"Thankfully no-one was hurt on this occasion but we are obviously extremely
concerned that the suspect has produced an axe".
The suspect is described as white, in his mid 40s, 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in, of
chubby build with brown, greying curly hair.
He was wearing an old brown coloured workman type jacket and he had a Scottish
accent, possibly west coast.
