McConnell attacks SNP 'deceit'
Jack McConnell
Jack McConnell criticised SNP policies
Jack McConnell has used a speech to the STUC conference to accuse the Scottish National Party (SNP) of attempting to deceive voters.

The Trades Union Congress conference began in Inverness on Monday and runs until Thursday.

The speech came at the start of the next stage of Labour's election campaign.

The party focused on what it called the Nationalist's threat to divorce Scotland from the rest of the UK.

Labour has promised economic growth and further progress against claims of economic uncertainty with the SNP.

Mr McConnell told delegates: "There is a choice on 1 May. A critical choice for this country.

"The Nationalists have been changing their position with each passing day. Tactical shifts to hoodwink Scotland.

John Swinney
Labour questioned the SNP's ability
"Just a little bit of fiscal autonomy. Just a little bit of time to prove they can govern. Just a little bit of time before Scotland separates from the UK."

He claimed businesses would suffer, jobs would be lost and skilled workers would leave Scotland.

"Two years of uncertainty. The price the Nationalists will force Scotland to pay for their deceit.

"Deceit to hide their real goal of separation. Tactics designed to confuse and fool us. Tactics deliberately chosen to fool Scotland's voters that there is no real risk in a vote for separation," he added.
