Ben Nevis 'murder' inquiry over
Howard Keeley
Howard Keeley: Fell 1,000 feet
The death of a teacher on the UK's highest mountain in 1962 is not being regarded by police as suspicious.

Northern Constabulary were investigating a claim that Howard Keeley may have been murdered on Ben Nevis.

A former pupil had contacted police alleging that two fellow pupils pushed the teacher 1,000ft down the mountain at a spot known as Corrie Leis.

A 51-year-old man has been charged with wasting police time.

Detective Inspector Gordon Greenlees, who led the inquiry, said: "The investigation proved to be difficult and challenging due to the 42-year time gap".

Mr Keeley, 23, had been supervising pupils from Balgowan School in Dundee, when he fell to his death.

Police originally treated his death as an accident.

Balgowan School, which housed a number of pupils with behavioural problems, was set up in 1855 and closed in 1983.
