Isle body finally identified
An artist's impression of Mr Gray was used in the appeal
Police have confirmed the identity of a man whose body was found on the Isle of Skye more than a year ago.
Northern Constabulary have named the man as Christopher Gray, 56, from Crowborough, in East Sussex. Despite a series of appeals, police had been unable to identify the body and were preparing to bury the remains on Friday. However, following a final plea for information last week, officers were contacted by Mr Gray's daughter, Deborah, who had seen media reports. Mr Gray's body was discovered in a makeshift shelter near Sleat in October 2001. There were no documents among the possessions found with the body and a post-mortem examination failed to reveal the cause of death. Police tried to identify Mr Gray's body using dental records and made an appeal through the British Dental Journal for information, but failed to turn up any leads. The also produced an artist's impression drawn from forensic evidence.
