Glasgow curries most favour

Glasgow faced competition from nine other cities
Glasgow has been named the curry capital of Britain after beating off competition from nine other cities.

It faced challenges from Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Newcastle and London, in winning the award.

Four Glasgow restaurants - the Ashoka at the Mill, Creme de La Creme, The Ashoka Flame and the Shish Mahal - were chosen to represent Scotland's largest city for this year's Kingfisher Curry Capital of Britain award.

The winning city was judged by the number of public votes given to the nominated restaurants and on the dossier submitted by the local council.

'High quality'

Glasgow City Council Lord Provost Alex Mosson said the win was a "great accolade" for the city.

He said: "The city can be justly proud of the high quality of restaurants which are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

"A special word of congratulations must also go to the four restaurants representing Glasgow in the curry capital bid.

"Their high standards of service, professionalism and innovative cuisine have ensured that Glasgow merits being Britain's curry capital."

London won the first Kingfisher curry award last year.
