'No link' between torso finds
River search
Police divers are continuing to look for clues
Detectives say they are "almost certain" there is no connection between the deaths of a man and a woman whose torsos were found just miles apart.

Police have been left baffled by the killings of former soldier Daniel Hutcheson and 19-year-old mother Amy Anderson.

Mr Hutcheson's headless and limbless body was found in the River Clyde near to the Erskine Bridge and Miss Anderson's torso was found some four miles away on the banks of the River Leven, near Dumbarton.

Officers have had little to go on but they have now confirmed that Miss Anderson was spotted at 1740 BST on Monday 6 May in Christie Park, Alexandria.

The mother-of-one was reported missing on Saturday 4 May by friends.

The torso of Mr Hutcheson, aged 23, was found by a man walking his dog at Old Kilpatrick more than two weeks ago.

Both victims were homeless drug addicts, but there was nothing to link the deaths, police said.

Meanwhile, the detective in charge of the investigation into Miss Anderson's death made a further appeal to the public for information.

'No stone unturned'

Det Supt Stephen Ward: "This is an appalling and tragic incident which has had a devastating effect on Amy's family and on the local community.

"We will leave no stone unturned until we find the persons responsible. I would appeal to any member of the public who believes they have even the smallest piece of information to come forward and give that information to the inquiry team.

"Any information will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Mr Ward added: "As a result of our inquiries to date I am now also in a position to virtually rule out a connection between the death of Amy Anderson and that of 23-year-old Daniel Hutcheson from Drumchapel."

Meanwhile, police inquiries were continuing with a further search of the River Leven and its banks by police divers and a dog unit.

To aid the search, a water barrier down river from where Ms Anderson's remains were found was being lowered to expose parts of the riverbed.

Derelict properties and unused factory units lining the banks of the River Leven were also being searched today in an effort to find evidence or further remains.
