Murder probe after fire death
Fire engine
Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man's body was discovered following a house fire in Glasgow on Saturday night.

The 61-year-old's body was found in a flat in Crathie Court, in the Partick area of the city.

Another man, who is also 61, received hospital treatment for minor smoke inhalation.

Police officers believe the blaze was started deliberately.

Acting suspiciously

Strathclyde police said the body of a man in his 60s was found by firefighters who went into the flat to tackle the flames.

A second man was taken to hospital after suffering from slight smoke inhalation. He was later released.

A post mortem examination will be carried out, but police said they were treating both the fire and the man's death as suspicious.

Detective Inspector George Mitchell, who is heading the inquiry, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who was in the Laurel Street area prior to the fire service attending and may have witnessed person or persons hanging around outside the house acting suspiciously."

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
