Paper mill closure costs 250 jobs
Donside paper plant
The Donside plant employed 250 people
An Aberdeen paper mill is to close with the loss of around 250 jobs.

Staff at the Donside Paper Company had been due to return to work on Monday following the summer shutdown.

The company went into receivership last December with multi-million pound debts.

Now talks over a management buy-out have collapsed.

The receivers say an additional debt of 1.5m has been run up in the last few months alone to keep the company trading.

Donside Paper sold approximately 40% of its product in overseas markets, with Europe and the USA its main foreign markets.

It was formerly part of the UK Paper company and its financial difficulties were blamed on a combination of high pulp prices and the strength of the pound.

Donside specialised in the production of high quality paper and paper used by artists.
