Eminem tops Glasgow bill
Eminem on stage
Eminem has been the subject of protests
Controversial rapper Eminem is to headline Glasgow's Gig on the Green this summer.

The American rap star - ordered a fortnight ago to serve two years' probation for carrying a concealed weapon - is one of 60 artists and groups appearing at the two-day festival.

Others on the bill are equally controversial artist Marilyn Manson, Mercury Rev and Travis.

The festival, which last year attracted 60,000 fans, is to be held on the weekend of 25 and 26 August.

Crowds at the Gig on the Green
The festival drew 60,000 last year
It is Scotland's second largest music festival after the annual T in the Park, at Balado, near Kinross.

The line-up, revealed at the People's Palace on Monday, also includes: Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, Embrace, Idlewild and Evan Dando. Eminem's criminal record and his controversial lyrics have drawn criticism from some quarters.

A Birmingham disc jockey refused to play his record after he was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon.

Graham Mack abandoned his show on Birmingham's BRMB radio station after rowing on air with the programme controller Adam Bridge.

Gay protest

Eminem was given two years' probation, fined $2,500 and ordered to undergo counselling and submit to drug testing at a Michigan court.

The charges came after an incident outside a Detroit nightclub in June last year when Eminem saw a man kissing his wife Kimberly.

The performer's concerts in the UK earlier this year were picketed by gay and lesbian rights' protesters who said his lyrics were sexist and homophobic.
