Boy, 10, dies in house fire
Fire engine
More than 20 firefighters from three units were called
A 10-year-old boy has died in a house fire despite daring efforts by neighbours to rescue him.

Brady Bartsch was trapped in an upstairs bedroom of the family home, near Dumfries, when the fire broke out at around 1840GMT on Sunday.

A police spokesman said the boy's mother, who is disabled, managed to escape from the blazing house as neighbours ran to the scene.

Neighbours used a ladder to climb to get to the upstairs bedroom window but were beaten back by the flames at Rashgill, Locharbriggs, on the outskirts of Dumfries.

The police spokesman said: "The mother managed to get out of the house but tragically the boy was trapped.

"It is too early to say what caused the fire but a full investigation is being carried out."

More than 20 firefighters from three units of Dumfries and Galloway Fire Brigade were called to the scene.

The boy's parents were treated at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for shock.
