William 'guards' request more cash
![]() Prince William will spend four years at St Andrews
Police in the Scottish town where Prince William will attend university have asked for extra money to cover the additional costs of guarding him.
Fife police have applied to the Scottish Executive for more than £100,000 to cover the costs of protecting the young royal, who is second in line to the throne. This will help to cover the costs of extra policing for the 19-year-old Prince, who will start at St Andrews University in the autumn to study history of art. Police have refused to comment on the application, saying it is a matter for St James's Palace. The £114,000 they have requested would be in addition to the force's current budget. The application has already been submitted to the Scottish Executive and will be discussed when Fife Council's Public Protection and Regulation Committee meets on Wednesday. Disciplinary Action Staff and students at the university have been warned that any stories leaked to the press during Prince William's four-year stay at St Andrews would result in disciplinary action. In an interview with the student newspaper, The Saint, the university's principal, Dr Brian Lang, said he was determined to protect the prince's privacy. He said he would take "a very dim view" of any member of the university passing on information of an inappropriate nature, and warned it could lead to the perpetrator having to find somewhere else to study.
