Greens hit by subtitling blunder

Channel 4 have apologised to the Green Party following an election broadcast blunder.

The channel mistakenly transmitted the party's election programme with UK Independence Party subtitles.

The Green Party said they were "very disappointed" by the error because they are only entitled to one broadcast throughout the campaign.

Bosses at Channel 4 apologised and described the blunder as a "rare and honest mistake".

In a statement the TV station added: "The subtitles were stopped before the end of the programme and replaced with an apology. Only a small percentage of viewers would have been affected."

A UKIP spokesman said he felt sorry for the Green Party and described the error as "not very fair if a major national broadcaster cannot get its act together and broadcast the right subtitles".

A spokesman for the Green Party added: "UKIP's policies are completely alien to Green thinking and progressive politics and it is something we totally disagree with."
