Parliamentary secretaries

A parliamentary secretary is a paid junior minister within a government department.

The specific job title for such ministers depends on that of the head of the department.

If the department is headed by a secretary of state, then the junior minister will be known as parliamentary under secretary.

However, if the head of department has some other title, such as the chancellor of the exchequer, then junior ministers will be referred to as parliamentary secretaries.
