Practice of the House

Parliamentary procedure is governed by a set of written rules known as the standing orders.

In addition, business in the House is conducted on the basis of practices and precedents that have developed gradually over many years.

These practices, often established many centuries ago, have come to be accepted by parliamentarians as the right way to conduct business.
