Bishop of Wolverhampton urges electorate to vote

The Bishop of Wolverhampton has urged people to vote in the general election to safeguard democratic values.

The Rt Rev Clive Gregory said anyone who believed in democracy had a responsibility to support it.

He said in the wake of MPs' expenses claims, a new breed of vocational MPs with a calling to serve could emerge.

The bishop is responsible for 264 churches, in Wolverhampton, Walsall and Sandwell in the West Midlands, as well as in parts of Staffordshire.

All of the churches are in the Diocese of Lichfield.
