There were massive queues outside polling stations across the UK on Thursday night, and hundreds of people were turned away as the polls closed.
They became angry as reports came in of voters at other polling stations being issued with ballot papers and locked in before the 2200 deadline.
The Electoral Commission, criticised for not being able to enforce its rules, has promised an inquiry.
