Labour retained the Luton South seat with Gavin Shuker taking over from Margaret Moran who was caught up in the expenses scandal.

TV personality Esther Rantzen attracted publicity as an anti-sleaze candidate, but she collected only 1,872 votes, or 4.43%, of those cast.
