CAP reform published

The European Commission has published new plans to reform the controversial EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

It takes up around 40% of the EU budget, and is still associated for many people with the so-called wine lakes and butter mountains.

To discuss how the CAP should be reformed, The Record Europe's Janet Barrie is joined by:

Richard Ashworth, British Conservative MEP who sits on the committees on Agriculture and Budgets

José Bové, the French Green MEP from the 'Europe Ecologie' party

Dan Jørgensen, the leader of the Danish Social Democrat MEPs and vice chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

New Conservative leader

Martin Callanan explains new role

The new leader of the British Conservatives in the European Parliament, Martin Callanan MEP, has said he is not bound by the "collective responsibility" of the Westminster coalition government.

In his first television interview since his election, he has told the Record Europe's Janet barrie that he is "free to advocate his own views and opinions".

In the European Parliament, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats sit in separate groups.

Advertising laws

Prescription drug advertising scrutinised

New rules on information on prescription drugs have led to claims by some consumer groups that there could now be direct advertising to patients through the back door.

The Record Europe's Janet Barrie speaks to two MEPs about what the new EU rules could mean.

She is joined by:

Christopher Fjellner, centre-right Swedish MEP who has steered the proposals through the European Parliament

Glenis Willmott, leader of the British Labour MEPs

The Record: Europe examines the key moments in the political week in Brussels and Strasbourg and focuses on the work of the European Parliament and European Commission.

It is broadcast on BBC Parliament on Saturdays at 2300 GMT, Sundays at 1700 GMT and Mondays at 1000 GMT, on BBC World on Saturdays and Sundays at 0630 CET and on the BBC News channel on Sundays at 0530 GMT and Mondays at 0330 GMT.
