Speaker defends expenses reforms

The new House of Commons speaker has told the BBC he wants to see the proposals to limit MPs expenses implemented in full.

There has been speculation that the recommendations - which would ban MPs from claiming mortgage interest on their second homes and employing members of their families - may be watered down.

But John Bercow told the Andrew Marr show that as part of the "wholesale, fundamental and irrevocable change" to the system, family members will not be able to be employed by MPs.
