Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband has said Gordon Brown will be "upset" by criticism over a letter he wrote to a bereaved soldier's mother.

Guardsman Jamie Janes, 20, from Brighton, East Sussex, was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan in October.

His mother has told the Sun newspaper that the prime minister's letter was a "hastily scrawled insult".
