Johnson defends sacking chief adviser

The Home Secretary has defended his reasons for sacking his chief adviser on drugs, Professor David Nutt.

Alan Johnson told MPs that he had lost confidence in Professor Nutt's ability to do his job because he had criticised government policy.

Scientists say they fear the row between ministers and their experts over illegal drugs could undermine their independence.
