Security has been increased outside BBC Television Centre ahead of an appearance by the BNP leader Nick Griffin on tonight's Question Time.
Yesterday, attempts by cabinet minister Peter Hain to stop the appearance going ahead were rejected by the BBC Trust. Nick Griffin has described the reaction to his appearance as "hysterical".
Mark Byford, the BBC's Deputy Director General, said the corporation's impartiality rules mean it is right for the BNP to be given airtime.
