Brown: 'We must persist in Afghanistan'

Gordon Brown has said that the UK is right to continue with its military mission in Afghanistan.

The prime minister told the House of Commons that the government had increased the resources to the armed forces and would continue to give safety the highest priority.

However he acknowledged that British troops are facing a ''difficult'' summer, and that ''it is not over yet.''
